Ridden 5 times for a total of 29.51 kilometers with an average speed of 23.19 kph
One decent hill in the middle. All downhill at the end of the ride with a nice straight shot down Sloat where you can build up amazing speed.
One decent hill in the middle to get your juices flowing.
Traffic Warnings: Sloat Ave. is filled with cars in a hurry not looking out for bicyclists. Between Junipero Serra and 19th lookout for yourself, ride fast, and take the whole lane. Crossing 19th can be a bit hairy with all those impatient metal beasts at the red light. I suggest straddling the lane between the right turn lane and the normal lane. As you cross the street you can pull to the right and take the birm; if there are cars parked in the birm, take the sidewalk for a bit as all those impatient drivers whip past.
Also, watch yourself on West Portal! With all the cars pulling in and out of the parking spaces you could get hit easily - I did once!
Alternate route: instead of Sloat take Ocean Ave and to get over to West Portal hang a left on that odd oneway street previous to Junipero Serra. The traffic is less but you have to deal with stop signs.
