My route to work. Great downhills going in. Awful uphills going back home. Some good wide shoulders to ride on a lot of the way, but also some scary sections with no shoulder and fast moving commuter race car drivers, who are trying win the checkered flag in the Rat Race 500.

It takes me about 55 minutes actual spin time. Slightly more if you factor in traffic intersection stops. Going home takes a lot longer. Not bad for a heavy, out of shape guy, on a 25 year old bike.

Do you do this everyday? What's the time difference between driving/biking?

Hey there - I commute a couple of times a year, just never have time. (see my profile) Trying to do it more now though.

By car it takes about 25 minutes if I take the interstate (yuck). 35 minutes if I drive secondary roads. On my bike I can get there in 55 minutes. Takes longer to pedal home though - more hill climbing.

That's a serious commute. My old commute back in Nashville was from Edmondson Pike just north of Old Hickory to Vandy. It was fun but the hills where enough to make sure I had a serious sweat going by the time I got to campus.

Yeah there are some serious hills on the way to Vandy, no matter how you go. I can deal with the brief ones. But it's the ones that are a mile straight up that I have a hard time with.
